After a long winter everyone in the Mondsee region is looking forward to spring - and Easter!

skip Among the first signs of spring in the Mondsee region are the greyish, furry catkins of goat willow trees.

Twigs of pussy willow are used for religious decoration on Palm Sunday and blessed at church, as a replacement for palm branches, which do not grow that far north.

"Palmbuschen" bunches are believed to protect homes and fields from mischief and disaster.

skip Not without reason, the eggs are hard boiled and dyed or painted: Eating eggs was not allowed during Lent. In order to preserve the eggs, they were hard boiled and dyed or painted to easily distinguish them from fresh eggs.
